Fact or fiction? A Huntington Beach motorcycle cop pulls over a red-and-white Mini Cooper at a stop light. The driver, who works for one of those computer support companies who make house calls, thinks he’s going to get a ticket but the cop says, “Hey, what’s the cost and can I get one of your business cards?”
True story, swears Eric David Greenspan, founder of Make It Work in Santa Barbara. His company made its way into Orange County just after rivals at Geek Squad and their black-and-white VW Bugs hit the streets of OC. It was a slow news week so I wrote about them.
But whether Greenspan speaks the truth or his story is a marketing ploy, who knows? One thing for sure, the recent Geek Squad incident where a Geek near Walnut Creek was pulled over because his car looked too much like a police car.
Said CHP spokesman Steve Creel to the Contra Costa Times, “Obviously it would be a pretty far shot to mistake a Volkswagen Beetle for a cruiser, but it comes down to protecting our unique color scheme.”
The Geeks are repainting every car. Let’s hope the fire department doesn’t get the same idea and force Make It Work to recolor its Mini Coopers.
