**UPDATE January 23, 2007: Gadgetress review of the FX530 **
I got to see a demo of Gateway’s new FX530 computer – the one with Intel’s quad-core computer chip inside. Tech reviewers have been wowed more so with Gateway’s quad core then the competition because Gateway overclocked the chip so it’s 20 percent faster than what Intel intended. Gateway also warranties it so if the chip dies in a year, you’re covered. That’s something to write about.
In fact, I decided to share the experience with you all in a little video I did, with help from videographer Rob Whitfield and all-purpose tech editor Kevin Sablan.
While visiting Gateway’s Irvine headquarters, I learned that Gateway tests each chip to make sure it’s worthy of a warranty. That means putting the chips through a strenuous 24-hour wave of tests, from 95-degree heat to 3DMark06, an intense graphics program used to benchmark how well a computer can handle fast-moving video. Rick Schwartz, Gateway’s director of desktop product marketing, told me that if I tried to run the program on my own computer, it probably wouldn’t even work. I need a quad core!
