The Gadgetress ~ TV, mobile and Internet: Covering technology's monthly bill

D-Link’s new media center

DlinkSMstanding.jpgD-Link in Fountain Valley has a new Media Lounge Wireless Media Player that looks more like a Wi-Fi router than media drive. This is one of those tools that plugs into a TV or other video source and your home’s computer network to stream music, photos and video from PC to TV.

Besides a new look (the original MediaLounge looked like a thin DVD player), this is also capable of streaming high-definition video through a WIRED (wireless is too slow, apparently) connection. Also nice, it works with Intel Viiv technology, which is Intel’s way of making computers and gadgets talk to one another much easier.

The specs: D-Link MediaLounge DSM-510 Media Player has HDMI and composite ports, megabit Ethernet (what? not gigabit?), Wi-Fi (G version) and a USB port to plug in a digital camera or card reader. Price is $240. More details at www.dlink.com/dsm-510.
