Gateway denies Acer takeover

March 20th, 2007, 2:15 pm · Post a Comment · posted by

gatewaylogocow.jpgGateway is finally speaking up about rumors that a Taiwan competitor, Acer, wants to buy the Irvine computer company. For the past week, Gateway remained silent on the rumors, even after several analysts said they believe it was Gateway, which helped push the Irvine PC company’s stock up 6 percent on Monday, though it’s trading at $2.38 today, down 2 cents. Others didn’t really believe it was Gateway.

With all the fuss, Gateway decided to put an end to the rumor, with a statement I just received from David Hallisey, Gateway’s Director, Corporate Communications:

While it is company policy not to comment on rumor and speculation, in light of continued reports surrounding Acer’s plans for an acquisition in 2007, I can confirm that Gateway is not in negotiations with Acer. Instead, we remain focused on the business at hand and continuing to deliver high quality products and superior service and support to our customers worldwide.
