Star Wars mail boxes move around in OC

starwarscelebration.jpgDid you know tomorrow is Star Wars Day? May 25, 2007 is the 30th anniversary of the release of Star Wars, the original movie. Lots of celebrations around the world including the 5-day fun fest that began today at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Read more about it in today’s Register story by Peter Larsen.

Also, the highest-vote-getting Star Wars stamps will be unveiled tomorrow. For the past two months, the U.S. Post Office has asked the public to vote on their favorite Star Wars characters, which will be given their own stamp.

The winning stamp will be announced during a special “Star Wars First Day of Issue” ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Star Wars event in Los Angeles.

That brings me to the update on the two R2D2 boxes in OC mentioned last month in an earlier post. They have moved from their original spots in Anaheim and Newport Beach. Check out their new locales:

Westminster: 15401 Brookhurst
Irvine: the new Northwood Station, 1 League

Richard Maher, who handles media calls for the OC region of Postal Service, doesn’t believe R2 will be moved again. Still, if you haven’t seen them, check them out soon because the Post Office only planned to keep the boxes disguised for a limited time.

May the force be with you!
