Reporting from the front lines: Register reporter Sonya Smith is #10 #13 in line (a few people cut overnight) waiting to buy an iPhone at the Irvine Spectrum Apple store. She’s been there since Thursday afternoon and is offering periodic updates of what it’s like to wait for the iPhone, which goes on sale Friday at 6 p.m.
Two people from the Lake Forest AT&T store, off El Toro road, stopped by the line and said there are only 20 people in line at their store. They’re saying that they’re at a hidden location so nobody knows about it. They said that each store has at least 100 phones and supposedly there are 3 million in the country.
There are probably about 120 to 130 people in line now and it’s stretching almost to the street in front of the Ling and Louie’s restaurant. People in the back of the line are not nervous at all but the closer you get to the front, the more people are getting nervous and anxious and worried about people cutting. We’re trying to find out if anyone cut in front of me. We’re just all getting pretty nervous, me included. I’m just glad my mom is out here with me so she can guard my stuff.
I hope we get a goody bag. I heard they handed them out goody bags in New York. Employees are doing something in the store but I don’t know what. All the Apple store employees are on duty today. I wonder if they’re going to be wearing matching shirts? I heard in Manhattan, the store had two rows of employees lined up and when you enter and leave, they cheer you on like you’re a rock star.
