The first local iPhone accessory pitches came last week with a decorative case from urban designer LRG in Lake Forest. But I ignored most of the others as I worked with Sonya Smith to document the launch of the iPhone from a Mac addict’s perspective (that’s Sonya, not me.)
Now that we’ve had time to breathe, here are a few selections from the ongoing iPhonemania:
From Sonnet Technologies in Irvine: iPhone USB wall charger that you can take on the road. The retractable prongs fold up for easy storage and are non-polarized so you can plug the adapter in face up or down. European models also available. Also includes a USB-to-dock connector cable. Price for both: $19.95.
From Tekkeon Inc. in Tustin: Another portable USB power adapter. Tekkeon calls its model “myCharger” and it also includes retractable prongs plus and seven adapter tips to charge the iPhone/iPod, BlackBerry and a bunch of cell phones (LG, Motorola, Samsung, Nokia and Sony Ericsson). Price: $24.95 and available from various online retailers such as Buy.com, Tiger Direct and the Tekkeon store.
A little farther from OC:
From Nashville, Tenn.’s Griffin Technology: Five cases, including from left to right, the Elan Holster, iClear (includes static-peel screen cover), Streamline sport armband (has a built-in reflective trim), the Elan Snap-In and the Elan Sleeve. Prices from $24.99 to $29.99
Dice Electronics’ iPhone car kit: The DICE integration kit lets you connect an iPhone to your car stereo so you can change songs, audiobook chapters, etc. Plus, it keeps the iPhone charged. You’ll need the DICE iPod integration kit first, but if you have that, no new hardware is necessary. DICE kits are available for select models of Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Honda, Hummer, Lexus, Mazda, Mini Cooper, Pontiac, Scion, Toyota and Volkswagen. Price: $159. Available from DICE.
