Blizzard has confirmed the name of the new game that will officially be announced today at BlizzCon 2007. It isn’t the next Diablo or a project that has been in the works from the previous Blizzard North team (which moved from northern California to Orange County in 2003).
It’s a new expansion to World of Warcraft called “World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King.”
Company cofounders Michael Morhaime and Frank Pearce will announce more details today at 11 a.m. during the convention.
Right afterward, BlizzCon attendees will get to play the early version, which is up and running on dozens of computers in the back area of the convention center. Early versions of Star Craft II are also available for play.
Blizzard told me the title for my story today, which is about how the company got so big. I have more photos, which I’ll post at 11:30 today after the news is official.
When I first started covering them in 2002, WoW didn’t exist (at least not officially) and Blizzard employed 220 people. Today, it has more than 2,500 employees around the world and is still hiring. Read today’s story HERE.
And keep checking back here today for BlizzCon updates.
Can you use your flying mounts in the next expansion!?
I’ll severely hate them if they prevent that :-/
