I bet you’re wondering why we have coverage of an Emmy’s party on a technology blog.
I trekked out last night for the DirectTV Emmy’s party (as a guest of sub-host Phillips) because the event was set up to call attention to the addition of 100 HD channels to DirectTV’s line-up by year’s end. And – every guest (that is celebrity guests) – receieved a free HD TV. My boyfriend even overheard celebs saying that the HBO party across the street was better, but that other people were coming over to the DirectTV event just for the TV.
Boy did my boyfriend and I feel out of place. This was even beyond how the other half lives. Two DJs spun music – both using Apple laptops! One DJ was using a black MacBook, the other a 15-inch Powerbook. They played music from bands such as Bloc Party, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!, Weezer and the theme from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Star-sighting was difficult, there were plenty of little (and I mean little) dresses and black tuxes. But, I did manage to spot Frankie Munoz – at left – (Malcolm in the Middle) on his way in, Evan Handler (the bald-headed star on the Showtime show Californication), and – my favorite – Tony Kanal (the bass player from No Doubt who used to date OC-hometown-star, Gwen Stefani). I managed to get a photo of Tony by asking my boyfriend to “take a picture” of me using my iPhone, photo at right.
