Faster iPhone with Broadcom chip?

September 17th, 2007, 1:10 pm · Post a Comment · posted by

For those who continue to wait to buy an iPhone, you may be rewarded with a speedier iPhone coming out next year, according to TheStreet.com.

The new phone will use faster cell-phone Internet technology known as 3G so pulling up web sites and checking e-mail will be similar to what consumers get with a home DSL line. The term 3G refers to cell-phone data access that tends to be in the 1-megabit-per-second speed or faster.

Another interesting tidbit in TheStreet’s scoop:

…Sources say Apple has tapped Broadcom’s Global Locate unit to supply chips for the phone. Broadcom acquired Global Locate in July.

No confirmation available from either Irvine-based Broadcom or Apple.
