What a day!

Last week I went to the online Apple store and registered for my $100 rebate for buying the iPhone before the $200 price cut. (More details on the rebate HERE.)

And, I immediately traded the $100 Apple store credit for a Product RED Shuffle. Check out that I got it personalized, for free, with “Sonya iGirl Smith” on the back.

I checked in with Editor Benjamin Etzioni who I work with – and who bought an iPhone at the same store and on the same day as I. He said that he’s planning to sell his Apple store credit taking the highest bidder. He said he won’t accept below $90. Also, he’s only selling it because he found out that the rebates can’t be used in iTunes (what?!?).

Anyone else out there have plans for using their iPhone rebates?

that’s weird, i’ve read blogs talking about being able to buy iTunes gift cards with the credit…

  • Jake says:

you can use the credit to buy a itunes gift card — and then load a gift card. So if dude wants to sell it low — buy it high from him.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll let my friend know, and, if he persists I might just buy his credit!

UPDATE: My friend, Ben, said that the Apple online store says specifically that the rebate cannot be used for gift cards.

  • Matthew says:

You can purchase iTunes Gift Cards (it needs to be the physical card) but not Gift Certificates or Apple Store Gift Cards. Apparently an iTunes Gift card is not the same as an Apple Gift card.

Another update: Thanks again, Matthew. But, my friend Ben has informed me that he intends to use the rebate towards buying an Apple iPhone bluetooth headset ($129). I currently have one and really enjoy using it – especially because it just fits inside the ear, rather than forcing me to tuck it under my glasses and over my ear. If he has second thoughts, I’ll tell him to buy an iTunes card.
