More on the Broadcom and EA games partnership

Today we learned that Broadcom is partnering with Electronic Arts Inc. to get EA’s mobile games on phones powered by Broadcom’s latest mobile multimedia chip.

Q. What games will be included in the partnership?

A. EA has not yet made public which exact titles will be included, although we expect they will be among their most popular mobile games.

* NOTE: EA Mobile Games lists its mobile favorites as: The Sims 2 Pets (shown at right), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, EA Sports NBA Live ‘07, EA Sports Nascar ‘07, Madden NFL ‘08, Medal of Honor Airborne, Need for Speed Carbon, Tetris, EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA Tour ‘07 and EA Sports Fight Night Round 3.

Q. What mobile devices will be effected? When will those be released?

A. Mobile devices such as media players and cellphones that integrate new Broadcom VideoCoreIII multimedia technology will be able to deliver these games to consumers. The new Broadcom processor was only recently announced and so there are no publicly available mobile devices available at this time. It typically takes from 12 to 18 months from the time a new device is initiated to when it comes to market.

Q. What similar partnerships does Broadcom have with this new multimedia chip?

A. This is a very unique partnership in the gaming industry and we’re very proud to be one of the first semiconductor companies to earn the confidence of a company like Electronic Arts that our processor will provide a worthy user experience.

Q. Are there also new mobile graphics being developed that would be made possible with this new chip? Examples?

A. This new chip enables an unprecedented digital graphics experience on a mobile platform. In addition to home gaming console quality of graphics, the chip also enables 12-megapixel still cameras and high definition quality video record and playback. In addition, the chip includes a built in HDMI interface, which means games and HD videos can be output directly to an external screen such as a television.
