Faster, possibly Googled phones are in Irvine’s Verizon sight for next year.
Today, Verizon announced it will use Long Term Evolution for its fourth generation, or 4G, mobile broadband network.
LTE is an evolved version of 3G, basically faster Internet access for mobile phones and other portable devices.
“Fourth generation’s higher data speeds will usher in a new era of wireless applications and appliances, all of which can benefit from connecting to the nation’s premier wireless network,” said Doreen Toben, chief financial officer of Verizon.
Verizon with Vodafone plan to start rolling out tests of the 4G system in 2008 using firms such as Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia-Siemens, and Nortel.
