Costa Mesa’s Experian has launched ContractorCheck.com , a site consumers can use to check up on home improvement contractors. The site, unlike other contractor locater services, does not accept advertising from contractors and pledges to use only verified, third-party data.
The new service allows users to learn about potential contractors: years in business, address history, liens, judgements, bankruptcies and license, bond and insurance information.
“Each year unlicensed and uninsured contractors cause major headaches for homeowners,” said Marc Kirshbaum, president of Experian’s Business Information Solutions group. “We designed ContractorCheck to help eliminate these issues.”
Also of note, says Lisa Shelby representing Experian, the Web site in December will offer consumers free access for up to 10 Contractor Check reports because of the families recently affected by wildfires across southern California who may currently be looking for contractors.
