HDTV madness

ceslogoEvery corner I turn, every line of booths I pass I’m finding high-definition TVs. And that’s whole lot of television, since my GE-supplied pedometer shows that I’ve already walked 2.636 miles at CES.

hibatchitvsAnd these are not just simple displays of your parent’s old tubes, oh no. They are presented like the next muscle cars — all polished and primed showing off brightly-colored hi-def movies or music videos.

And the displays are pretty elaborate too, with the Hitachi showing off their new 1.5-inch thick LCD on a twirling white staircase. Take a look at the picture on the right.

But the biggest TV head-turner yet has been the Sharp 108-inch HDTV, pictured below. The company spread out two of these units playing bright and funky music videos among dozens of smaller TVs. Quite a show stopper — which is quite something at CES, where one could easily mistake a booth for a rock show or a rave party.

sharp108inchtvOh wait! There is a rock show going on. The lead singer of Train is performing at the Sony booth as I write this.

Now I’m off to get me some glow sticks so I can try to fit in.
