7amstaffmeetingCalifornia State University, Fullerton officials announced today that they will use iLinc software for a variety of projects including distance learning, virtual faculty office hours and online science labs.

CSUF’s Chief Information Technology Officer, Amir Dabirian, said the software will help to connect the unviersity’s 236-acre main campus as well as satellite learning centers in Irvine, Santa Ana and Garden Grove.

iLinc Communications from Phoenix makes the software suite, which works on Mac and Windows computers. All four iLinc programs offer the same basic level of functionality:

  • Online sessions can be recorded and stored as videos.
  • Progress of online courses or support requests can be tracked.
  • Polls and surveys can be conducted
  • Text chats can be served.
  • Desktops and applications can be remotely shared from one computer to other computers.
  • An Internet-based whiteboard allows for posting of ideas and notes.
  • Documents and media files can be stored and shared in one central location.
  • Meetings or courses can be scheduled. The program e-mails the invitees and tracks RSVPs.

More specifics on each program:

LearnLinc creates web-based online courses through which class sessions can be organized, tests administered and student progress tracked.

SupportLinc is a way to administer tech support over the Internet. It queues support requests and tracks responses.

MeetingLinc is for conducting an online meeting.

ConferenceLinc is very similar to MeetingLinc, but is intended for hosting of large events such as marketing seminars, investor or stockholder meetings, virtual press tours and large internal communication meetings.
