While we wait for Microsoft and Yahoo! to sort out a possible merger, here’s some fun on what the merged company could be named.
But, I’m sure these two tech giants would go a step further by combining their names into a 2.0 delight. A few sites will help you choose a 2.0 name. This tool on lightsphere.com generates wacky names by adding unrelated prefixes and suffixes. Simon Benjamin created his Web 2.0 name generator that uses words you provide or random words from web2.0awards.org. Finally, BustAName mashes together your list of words and lets you know of combinations that are available as domains.
Lightsphere only offered wacky names such as Realzoom, Jaxcat and Agibo. But, Yahoo and Microsoft will likely bank on their brands. Some of the 2.0 names suggested by Simon Benjamin’s tool and BustAName are below. Vote for your favorite.
One of those suggestions, Yamicroftstr, is what you find in the image at right thanks to this Web 2.0 logo generator site.
And finally, I thought it would be good to try an Orange County version of a name for the possible merger. The Guild Name Generator at nickyee.com offers names for guilds in the World of Warcraft game made by Irvine’s Blizzard. A few ideas for the merger based on those lists: Legion of Valiant Technology, Fellowship of Online Ahoy, Harem of Yahoo-Microsoft Trolls and Guardians of the Deadly Internet.
