**UPDATE on 6/7/2008: Starbucks’ free Wi-Fi isn’t cool with T-Mobile **
Fast Food Maven has been all over Starbucks bag of freebies, but I thought I’d remind readers that starting this week, anyone can get a two-hour daily dose of Wi-Fi for free at Starbucks.
The catch? You must join the coffee chain’s rewards program (which is free).
And you need to get a Starbucks card of at least $5 to make purchases.
And you need to buy something once a month.
And you need to set up an account with AT&T.
And you must join by July 14. Here’s the FAQ page.
**UPDATE, Aug. 27, 2008:** Looks like the promotion has continued beyond the July 14 date.
(And no, you can’t use the card multiple times a day, yet. The company is working on this.)
So, drumroll please… handing Starbucks your e-mail and address to join the program will also get you a dose of flavored syrup, free refills of hot or iced coffee and a free tall beverage with purchase of one pound of whole bean coffee.
Free Wi-Fi, on the other hand, requires a separate sign-up with AT&T, although AT&T tells me you can use the same user name and password so it’s as if you have one account.
Other ways to get “free” Wi-Fi service from AT&T:
Heh, or we can go to Panera or some other place that offers truly free WiFi without restrictions. It’s beyond me why Starbucks (and others) charge for this. It should just be a perk to draw in customers. Especially now that the economy is getting tight.
Oh cool site, thanks Gadgetress
