I’m not a big fan of spending extra on ring tones, wallpapers and other add ons. But then I spotted these new wallpapers from Boost Mobile in Irvine.
As part of its on-going artist series, Boost has added cartoon-artist Amanda Visell, who designed some fun stuff for Disneyland’s Tiki room. I love her retro storybook look and would love to own an original. But her prices are way too high for this journalist’s budget.
Boost — actually Boosted, which is the company’s “lifestyle brand” of products — is now selling her work as wallpaper art for cell phones for $1.99 each. Much cheaper, but not signed and not a limited edition.
As I mentioned, I’m not a fan of add-ons of any sort and I don’t understand the whole mobile wallpaper business. What’s to stop someone from snapping a photo of Amanda’s work and turning it into his phone’s wallpaper? Nothing, I guess, other than guilt for not paying the artist a few bucks.
So, think of it as a cheap way to own an Amanda Vissel. Boost has teamed up with artists for the past few years now. Previous artists include Claw Money, Madsteez, Jim Houser, Retna, Revok, Saber, George Thompson. It’s part of its “Artist Content Collaboration” program to help artists out in “areas previously untapped” plus in their current initiatives and projects.
But I’m not a Boost customer so unfortunately, I can’t pay the $1.99 to get Amanda’s “Monster Drop” as my wallpaper. I’d prefer an Amanda Visell phone. Images below:
