iPhones restocked at AT&T stores

Just as AT&T told me on Friday, the company has restocked its supply of the new 3G iPhones at many stores, according Geoff Mordock, an AT&T spokesperson. But call ahead before you drive down to the store because they are selling quickly.

“Since the inventory is extremely dynamic, the best recommendation that I can make would be to encourage people to check their local store to see whether there is any at that particular location or to stop by and sign up for the direct fulfill program, where customer can be assured that they’ll receive their iPhone 3G in what we estimate would be 7-10 days,” Mordock added.

The direct fill program requires signing up for a contract and handing over a credit card. An iPhone will be ordered in your name. But you won’t get charged until you have your iPhone in hand.

Earlier today, I offered the update on Apple stores. Four of the five Apple stores all have the iPhone available except the Irvine Spectrum store.

Advice: Check the availability site at Apple the night before you want to make the purchase.

I chose the direct fulfill option on Friday at an AT&T store. I paid the extra $15 for “priority” shipping, expected to be in the store Tuesday or Wednesday.

My order status online says “backordered.” I called and finally got a person who said they are due a shipment of the white 16′s, like I ordered, tomorrow. But no confirmation that any will be going to fill my order. :-( I’m now tempted to just go in the store….

Babymama — Let me know if you get it tomorrow. AT&T says customers need to place the order in the store (which you did). And AT&T is only promising fulfillment within 7 to 10 days. But with priority shipping, hopefully you will get it tomorrow. Good luck! — Gadgetress

I just called three AT&T stores (Fullerton and 2 in Orange) and all said they were out of stock. They didn’t indicate when they’d get more in, nor seemed to care, so I don’t think Mr Mordock is aware of the actual inventory.

Nice! AT&T sold out of its iPhone stock on Friday so quickly that I thought each store maybe had a dozen phones. The company wouldn’t tell me how many they had. The same could be true for the “replenishment.” Else, the new stock is going to customers who are doing the Direct Fill orders. I will check again with Mordock, although I’ll probably stop iPhone updates after today. — Gadgetress

    UPDATE!
I awoke to an email that my iPhone has, indeed, shipped. The tracking number indicates it will be in the store by 3 p.m. today, so depending what they need to do on that end I assume I will be able to pick it up today or tomorrow? Moral of the story, to me it was worth the extra $15 for priority shipping. I paid $300 bucks already, what’s an extra $15? and it did come in the specified 3-5 days.

what’s an extra $15. well, we all know what $15 can buy. but it’s 5% of the cost of your phone.
