**UPDATE at 10:30 p.m. June 19** All Apple stores in California have sold out of their 3G iPhones, according to the Apple store update page as of Saturday night (a screen capture via PDF).
One week after it went on sale, the 3G iPhone is only available at the Mission Viejo Apple store, in the white, 16 GB version, according to Apple’s online iPhone availability checker.
Lots of red squares (meaning it’s out of stock) dot the list. In Southern California, Apple stores with limited stock include Manhattan Beach (all 3 available), the Beverly Center in Los Angeles (black 16 GB), Fashion Valley in San Diego (8 GB and 16 GB black), Los Gatos (8 GB black) [D'oh -- Los Gatos is up north, but I decided to leave the mention in. Thansk for correcting me, A]and Topanga in Canoga Park (16 GB white).
(Note: Los Gatos was sold out last week so it looks like Apple stores are getting more in too.)
I also checked in with AT&T on Friday for the latest. Geoff Mordock, with AT&T, again recommends calling your local AT&T store first. If they don’t have one in stock, they can order one for you through its Direct Fill program. You hand over your information and credit card, and one will be reserved in your name.
The wait to get one is longer now. Mordock said the company is currently estimating arrival in 10 to 21 days, compared to his last week’s estimate of 7 to 10 days.
“We are shipping iPhone 3Gs as fast we can to accommodate demand, so you can always check your local AT&T store to see if they have one available,” he said.

Past iPhone posts:
that’s ridiculous. they should have anticipated and manufactured enough product. apple doesn’t seem to be handling this iphone 3g launch very well.
No thanks, I wait 3 more weeks and pick one up at an underinflated price
isn’t Los Gatos up in Northern California, next to San Jose?
why didn’t apple and at&t provide a prepay purchase option. Just like hot video games which virtually guarantee that you have your game the day it comes out by providing the company an idea of how many of said product to produce. In my opinion this was either a publicity stunt, or very poor planing. Either of which is totally unacceptable because if this is a gimmick to get people to talk about the iphone, well, its made my initial interpretation of apple iphone a poor one at best. And as for poor planing, well perhaps another company, say microsoft, could capitalize on the unsatisfied market. I hope apple can resolve this for their next launch. Let’s hope.
D’oh! Yes, Los Gatos is up north. Why do I keep thinking it’s near LA? — Gadgetress
You guys have no idea why its sold out. First they know it was going to be a big hit. They under shipped to every store on purpose to create hype. Look around on internet every article is about iphone being sold out, people are talking about it, like wow you got one etc…. its like willy wonka.
2). Steve jobs is so smart to create hype for a product that costs so much a month that seems cheap, and you don’t get video camera, picture msg or really anything.
grabbed mine on day 1. love it. waited 7 hrs in 3 different lines. GL to all
re: “Geoff Mordock, with AT&T, again recommends calling your local AT&T store first.” I tried calling my local AT&T store but was not able to connect to a real person; instead I heard a message politely advising that they were busy due to the high demand of the iPhone. When I visited the store, the clerk offered that I could order an iPhone and they’d call when it came in. I asked about the rate plan based on a corporate discount offered to employees of my company. Sadly, he said they couldn’t confirm my corporate discount until I actually placed the order. I’m beginning to understand my friends’ complaints about AT&T service.
It’s amazing how we’ve been conditioned to WANT something so bad. Will anyone die without an iPhone? You’d think a flu strain was about to wipe out the world and we’re scrambling to get a flu shot. The world would be a better place if we had this much enthusiasm for the more important things of life. – PC / Blackberry user!!!!
give me a break car. a sold out iphone for days on end is a disaster to sales, shareholders, etc. maybe marketing can use it their advantage, but having a product that’s in demand and sold out… without selling it on back order (save for att stores) is a complete disaster. i work in sales, believe me.
I can see limiting the supply to create a buzz for the first couple of weeks. But we’re going on a month now and these stores are still out of stock and there are still lines lasting for hours. The bottom line is that they’re not shipping enough phones and they’re taking too long on each customer with the activations.
