For all those who have been waiting all morning, I just downloaded it. Here’s the link: www.google.com/chrome I’m now blogging in Google Chrome. Some initial thoughts that I’ll post as soon as I discover them:
- It imported my FireFox bookmarks, passwords, history, etc. But somehow, it failed to import one of my most visited sites, the administration page for this blog!
- Tabs are at the tippy-top of the page, just like an old-fashioned filing cabinet:
- My blogging software of choice, WordPress, is getting screwed up and not recognizing the return key, so I’m having to go in to the code and write html so all my paragraphs aren’t bunched together.
- Chrome also left out my bookmark for iGoogle!!
- Whoa! Just downloaded the latest free software program from GiveawayOfTheDay and it downloaded in less than a second. Tried in Firefox, which took at least 8 seconds.
- Chrome, with 16 tabs open, currently using just 70,056k memory, while FireFox, which I restarted and opened 5 tabs, is now using twice as much! That’s reason enough for me to switch.
- Darn it, WordPress keeps eating up paragraph code. Ah well. Maybe Chrome isn’t ready for WordPress or vice versa?

Downloaded it, tried it, dumped it for now.
Couldn’t figure out how to get to my home page and it made my laptop run hot.
Maybe when it’s out of beta, I’ll try it again. Back to using Firefox.
Irvine Reader — You’re right. Chrome didn’t import my homepage settings. But you can change that in the right-hand corner where the little wrench icon is, and then hit “options,” then ‘Basics’ then look at the middle where it says ‘home page.’
Since I blog so much, I’ve gone back to FF for now too… — Gadgetress
Ohhh ok, I remember seeing that. Maybe it was so simple that I couldn’t figure it out
Anyway, I’m pleased with (and used to) Firefox, so I’ll stick with that. I think it’s going to end up being the most-used browser, especially since IE isn’t the greatest. About the only thing I can’t do with Firefox is watch certain TV programs online – the Media Player doesn’t seem to work correctly. That’s the ONLY time I ever use IE.
