If you’re too lazy to go to your PC and look up the latest weather, now you can get instant local weather on your TV — if you’re a DirecTV customer, that is.
The satellite TV service has added several features to bump up its localized weather service. All are in partnership with The Weather Channel and offer localized weather right down to the ZIP code - 40,000 ZIP codes are being tracked.
For the most part, viewers can access the new weather features just by watching The Weather Channel. The options include:
Alert Ticker - When severe local weather conditions appear at the bottom of the screen. A link also appears to quickly get to “Local On Demand” for more information.
Local on the 8s - Watch targeted weather reports six times an hour at every minute ending in 8 (:08, :18, etc.). This offers current conditions, radar maps, the day’s forecast and the seven-day.
Local On Demand - Local weather information shown while watching the live broadcast of The Weather Channel.
DirecTV ACTIVE - This one is DirecTV interactive users only. This portal features all sorts of local weather information. Get to it by pressing the ‘Active’ button on the remote control.
