AT&T’s U-verse TV service still targeting Irvine

October 23rd, 2008, 5:28 pm · 5 Comments · posted by Tamara Chuang, a.k.a. The Gadgetress

AT&T U-verseU-Verse TV service from AT&T is already offered in parts of Irvine. But it’s not available everywhere in the city yet —  to the disappointment of one Irvine reader who told me he’d heard the delay was due to issues with The Irvine Co., Irvine’s big developer and landlord.

Not true, according to both companies. Bill Rams, with The Irvine Co., said he wasn’t aware of any situation. H. Gordon Diamond, with AT&T’s public affairs, said the two are working together to expand U-verse in Irvine.

“The Irvine Co. has been very amenable to talking with AT&T, and they continue to express an interest in bringing a new choice in home entertainment and other next-generation services to residents and homeowners. We look forward to continuing our work with them and exploring future options for AT&T U-verse on Irvine Co. properties,” Diamond said in an e-mail.

Diamond wouldn’t say what percent of Irvine’s population can get U-verse, nor when those talks with The Irvine Co. would result in actual service for residents who want it.

If any readers out there hear otherwise, let me know.

U-verse, available in parts of Orange County since last year, continues to expand. The company expects that subscribers will double to 1 million by the end of the year.

In Orange County, U-verse is available in these cities, or parts thereof:  Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Irvine, La Habra, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Orange, Placentia, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster and Yorba Linda.

Argh! Why must the Irvine Company have their hands on every aspect of our lives?? I live in the Village at the Spectrum and was so excited about this service, but, of course, it’s not available to us. We so need an alternative to Cox. Their customer service is dismal, technology outdated and prices exorbitant!

My issue - 3 weeks ago representatives from AT&T spent 30 minutes of my time asking all sorts of questions, on premise that “Uverse is available in Irvine, no matter what the internet or 800# says. We’ll schedule an evaluation of ‘your’ address to evaluate.”

3 weeks later - No appointment scheduled. When I called the customer service # of the ‘contract’, they couldn’t even look up the order. VERY discouraging. H

U-Verse is not available in Lake Forest. I have called them on several occasions and they have repeatedly confirmed it is not available for the 92630 zip code.
