Verizon’s FiOS TV service continues to plug away at attracting subscribers in Orange County. While I have no new details on new cities in O.C., the company is definitely expanding across the nation offering an alternative to cable TV service.
According to Verizon’s latest financial report, FiOS TV customers have doubled in the past year to 1.6 million, from 700,000 a year ago.
In the third quarter, ended Sept. 30, Verizon added 233,000 FiOS TV customers in the third quarter, up from 176,000 in the second quarter.
Overall FiOS Internet users also increased, to 2.2 million, from last year’s 1.3 million. During the third quarter, Verizon added 225,000 FiOS Internet customers, compared to 187,000 in the second quarter.
But what all interested TV watchers want to know is whether they can get it. What may help is looking at the sales penetration numbers, or the number of households that could get FiOS TV if they wanted it. Right now, FiOS TV sales penetration is at 19.7 percent, compared with 15.2 percent a year ago. By the numbers, 8.2 million homes can get FiOS TV if they wanted it. Likewise, FiOS Internet is available to 9.1 million homes, which is a 24.2 percent penetration rate.
By comparison, AT&T’s U-verse, the other alternative TV service from a telecom company, had 781,000 customers at the end of September.
OC cities with FiOS TV service: Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Westminster, Garden Grove, Stanton and certain unincorporated areas.

READ THIS BEFORE SUBSCRIBING TO VERIZON!! As someone who had Verizon Fios (TV/Internet/Phone), all I can say is DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO VERIZON!!! The service was very unreliable—including the home phone—and once Verizon switches you from copper wire to Fios, they will NOT switch you back, no matter what!! Long story short, I got tired of their spotty service and refused to pay my bill until they switched my phone back to copper, which they lied repeatedly and said they would but didn’t, so they sent my account to collection. I will rot in hell before I pay those liars at Verizon one cent! I know cable sucks, but I have learned it is 100% better than anything Verizon has to offer.
