AT&T U-verseMore AT&T news today… The company’s U-verse TV service will begin offering Internet speeds of up to 18 Mbps on Nov. 9.

This “High Speed Internet Max 18″ is the fastest Internet available from AT&T. And it’s got Orange County’s local cable  TV companies beat - Time Warner Cable offers around 10 Mbps connection (though some cities get up to 20 Mbps), while Cox Communications has a 15 Mbps plan.

But the new U-verse speed is not quite as fast the other other telecom-turned-TV-provider Verizon, whose FiOS Internet service tops out at 50 Mbps!! (Read “Speed up your Verizon FiOS Internet for free; just ask“)

However, U-verse is around the same price as the comparable package for FiOS, which is $53 to $70 for 20 Mbps. AT&T plans to charge $65 per month if you bundle it with the TV service. Existing U-verse Internet subscribers can upgrade their plans without additional installation costs or appointments.

Oh, and if you missed my earlier post, AT&T has opened up its network of Wi-Fi hotspots to U-verse customers for free.

don’t talk to me about 18mbps - will the tv stay ON when I turn it on? will it freeze up during the superbowl and other key events? will my computer modem red lights blink constantly rendering me helpless?
