Not being much of a football fan, I didn’t know the significance of “LT” until HDTV maker Vizio invited me to its headquarters last year to meet the man. LaDainian Tomlinson, a.k.a. LT, had just signed on to be the Irvine company’s high-profile spokesman. Vizio snatched up the San Diego Charger just after he was named MVP of the National Football League.
My brother, a long-time San Diego Chargers fan, was extremely jealous.
I learned of Tomlinson’s humble beginnings and good heart. He was very selective about endorsing products. He agreed to the Vizio deal because Vizio promised to help out Tomlinson’s own charities, such as the Boys & Girls Club where he hung out while growing up in Texas.
Vizio invited me back today to meet LT again. Unfortunately, I was sick so Register photographer Rose Palmisano stopped by the company to check in on LT. He was in town for charitable reasons, handing out gifts to kids from the Santa Ana Boys & Girls Club. As one kid puts it: “Even if I didn’t get an iPod, I am still happy because a football player gave me this gift,” said Oscar Rodriguez.
