For serious baseball fans, the new Major League Baseball Network debuts today at 3 p.m.

In Orange County, the new channel will be available on channel 276 for Time Warner Cable customers and 213 on DirecTV — and Cox Communications, on channel 119 and 340 (thanks Arte!).  The new network’s website offers quick links for AT&T U-verse and Dish Network customers to request the MLB Network from their TV company.

The new channel begins airing at 3 p.m. today with original shows and then at 4 p.m., a rebroadcast of Game 5 of the 1956 World Series, where Don Larsen threw the only no-hitter in postseason history.  Interspersed throughout the game, announcer Bob Costas will provide commentary throughout the game with Larsen and Yogi Berra.

The MLB Channel will offer live and archived game coverage and other baseball and softball-related programming. For the countdown, MLB is “live blogging” down the hours at tinyurl.com/9yk4pl.  A schedule of the first evening’s programs is available HERE.

For Time Warner Customers, the channel is included free for those who have the ‘Variety Tier’ of digital TV service.
