When a computer crashes, consumers bemoan the fact that they never backed up their photos, music and other valuable documents. No more!
CMS Products, based in Costa Mesa, announced a new fix at CES: Its “BounceBack Ultimate” software runs even if you don’t have a hard drive inside your computer. The company demoed the new software at CES by popping out a laptop’s hard drive and placing it on top so the computer was obviously running on the external drive:
Apparently, booting up a computer from a USB hard drive is difficult. CMS says this product is the first “commercially-available software product that enables computer users to instantly recover their PC following a hard drive ‘crash.’” The software stores (and backs up) all information on an external hard drive, which must be connected to the computer. The external drive can be from any company — not just CMS.
Whenever you restart your computer, it’ll ask whether you want to boot from the external drive or the computer. If your computer suddenly stops working, a likely culprit could be a corrupt hard drive. So, select “external drive” when you boot up the computer, and you can begin the recovery process. The software will restore your computer’s hard drive to an earlier time when it was working properly. Also, make sure you have nothing on the external drive because BounceBack reformats the drive.
“BounceBack Ultimate” software is included with CMS’s external hard drives or you can purchase it for $99. It’s compatible with Windows XP. A Windows Vista version should be available in the next few weeks, according to the company. A trial version should be available. Check CMS’ site for details (the “Ultimate” version is not yet available on CMS’ web site, but here’s a link to BouceBack Pro).

I have one of their backup drives. That thing crashes my computer everytime I plug it in. I thought it was my computer until I stopped using it and my computer never crashed again. POS.
I had the same issue. I thought my computer had a problem and when I stopped pluggin in that thing, my computer went back to working perfectly just like it did before using this trash.
I started using backup drives from CMS years ago. They had one that inserted in the PC Card slot that was slow, but did its thing. I’ve upgraded since then to a USB 2 backup and it saved me on several occasions. A few months ago I was hit with a virus that took out my entire system. I did a restore using Bounce back and it restored everything just as it was, all my programs and music and even my web site favorites. This new version of Bounce back interests me, particularly if I can boot directly from my backup drive. I’d say they are definitely onto something because most backup programs kind of make the recovery job the hardest part.
Look at any product review, especially really good innovative solutions like the ABSplus and you get the people coming out of the woodwork with bad reviews because they had a bad experience. They are either competitors with sour grapes or they did something stupid while using the product.
My story is that the ABSplus is the only solution I have found which does exactly what it says on the tin. Every few weeks I use the backup drive to start my PC and then re-run the backup on the old one – much easier and faster that waiting for it to defrag.!
It is so simple, just swap it for the system drive and re-boot the PC.
I am sure there are manay many more people out there who are not too IT litereate like me and just want a simple way back to full-speed computing. Bravo CMS.
I agree with Ian S. I have also been using this product for several years and all my information would have been toast if I hadn’t had the CMS Backup device. I have owned my laptop for several years and could not find all my application software so without CMS and their BounceBack software which backs up the APPS, OS and data I can’t imagine what my dilemma would have been like. I can hardly wait to receive their new software called BounceBack Ultimate
When my computer crashed, I was so relieved to have CMS’ ABS backup system protecting my data. It was a quick restore and nothing was lost. Later on I had difficulty with a hardware problem and when that was fixed, I was up and running in no time. I am somewhat technologicallly challanged and I still did it. CMS definately has one top product now with BonceBack Ultimate. Way to go CMS!
My laptop crashed and I was not able to retrieve any information. My drive was fried. I was devasted. Luckily, I had a portable ABS drive that all I had to do was unscrew it, pop in the drive into my laptop and I was back up and running just like that…Took less than 3 minutes…I was so thankful to have had my ABS unit…Of course, I bought another one and so should you.
CMS ROCKS!
