Loyal Sprint customer? Time to cash in

February 6th, 2009, 2:25 pm · 1 Comment · posted by

Sprint rolled out lots of perks to “loyal” customers this week with the new Sprint Premier.

It doesn’t take much to qualify as a loyal customer, defined as a Sprint user for three consecutive months on an individual plan of $69.99/month or family plan of $99.99/month. If you’re neither of those, however, there is a true loyalty plan that kicks in after 10 years of service — now that’s loyalty!

Perks include:

  • Dibbs on the latest phones and services, such as the upcoming Palm Pre (a very tempting phone, I should add). T-Mobile did something similar when the G1 (Google phone) was released. Only existing T-Mobile customers could pre-order the phone.
  • Getting treated like a ‘new’ customer so, after one year, you qualify for the cheapest price on a new cell phone. The catch: You have to commit to another two-year contract. Also, if you’re on a family plan, only the primary subscriber qualifies.
  • A courtesy call if you haven’t changed your plan in six months. Sprint will call to sell make sure you’re “getting the most value” out of your device.
  • A once-a-year discount on accessories at participating Sprint stores. (What? Only once a year?)
  • Special offers for trips, tickets to shows and sporting events.
  • Free ring tones and free minutes on a customer’s anniversary.

About time a company started offering something more to customers. And apparently, according to comments on the PhoneNews blog, Sprint started offering the perks last fall. The company made it official this week.

I have been a Sprint Customer for a loooooong time and they didn’t do anything for me. Then in December, I called because my one daughter lost her phone and started using my other’s daughter’s phone who was on a “Family Plan” with me. They OFFERED ME 100 bonus minutes to make it the rest of the month so I didn’t have to pay extra for minutes used. My 2 year contract is up and I was thinking about switching to another company, but if they are going to realize the value in having me as a 10 year + Paying on time customer, I’ll stick around!

This is a VERY wise move on Sprint’s part!
