**UPDATE**: As of Feb. 24, Verizon still hasn’t updated its prepaid site to indicate the new option. But there are other ways to get the service. See below in bold for the update.

Verizon Wireless, following the lead of prepaid wireless companies Boost Mobile and others, announced its first unlimited calling plan for prepaid users today.
The new Prepaid Unlimited Talk plan charges $3.99 for the day for calls to any phone. The fee is only charged on the days when calls are made or received. In addition, text messages sent or received are 1-penny each.
While this sounds like a good deal, a Verizon spokesman confirmed that users are charged $3.99 if they use the phone for 2 minutes a day or 200 minutes a day.
If you really chat that much, options from Boost Mobile, MetroPCS and Cricket may be more financially appealing. At $3.99, users can talk for 12.5 days a month before hitting $50.
But for $50 a month at Boost Mobile, based in Irvine, the unlimited plan that includes unlimited calls, texting, web and walkie-talkie service (Read about Boost Unlimited at, “Boost Mobile adds ‘tax-free’ $50/month unlimited plan.“)
At MetroPCS, $45 gets you unlimited calls, text and picture messaging and Mapquest mapping. Cricket Communications offers unlimited calls, multimedia messaging and texting to Mexico for $45.
Regardless, this is a nice update for users of Verizon’s existing inPulse prepaid service, which charges a daily fee just to use the plan and then only offers unlimited calls within Verizon’s network. Calls outside the network are $0.10 per minute.
Verizon also introduced a new Prepaid Basic plan, which is $0.25 per minute, $0.20 per text message but no daily access fee. Its Prepaid Plus plan is now $0.05 per minute, plus $1.99 per day phone service is used.
**UPDATE, Feb. 24, 2009**: As we wait for Verizon to update its prepaid page, here are other ways to get more information on the $3.99 service:

Page Plus Cellular, a pre-paid cellular service which uses the Verizon network has Verizon beat by offering a $2.49 per day plan for their flavor of the all-you-can-eat cell phone services, beating Verizon by a $1.50 per day!
The downside with PagePlus is their rate for texting is .15c each, so it appears their plan is geared toward heavy voice users, but still beats Verizon on price.
So, if comparing the service footprint, Boost Mobile using the Nextel side of Sprint would appear to be less expensive than Verizon, but the Verizon and/or PagePlus network has a much larger foortprint than Boost Mobile/Nextel. If you don’t travel much, either Metro PCS and/or Cricket are least expensive, and offer voice only plans for as little as $30.00 per month!
Here’s the link for PagePlus Cellular:

$120 a month is NOT a good deal!!!
correct me if i am wrong but doesnt that add up to $120/month?
I agree with AV. Page Plus’s voice rate of $2.49 for unlimited talk smokes Verizon. Granted, the other guys out there like Boost are cheaper overall, but if you want Verizon network with the Verizon price, this is the way to go. And they allow you to use Smartphones on Verizon whereas InPulse does not. Now if they’d cut down the texting price…
Bottom line:
Unlimited talk on Regular Verizon one month: $99.00
Unlimited talk on new Verizon InPulse plan one month $119.70
Unlimited talk on Page Plus (MVNO carrier on Verizon) $74.30
No comparison.
I haven’t seen these new plans on Verizon’s website. I’ve been looking for the updates to occur for weeks; am I missing something? I’d like to update the following comparison chart, but want to make sure that these plans materialize before doing so…

Good question PrepaidWirelessGuy, where are Verizon’s new Unlimited plans? I’ll have to check with the company. Will post an update here when I get one…
As of Feb. 24, 2009, Verizon has not updated its site with the new plan. However, the company tells me various ways to ask for it. I’ve posted an update in the post. See above. Thanks!
