Boost offers free access to taxi service on St. Pat’s Day

Unwilling to completely ditch its cheeky reputation, Boost Mobile’s latest promotion targets those who plan to get wasted this St. Patrick’s Day. Drunken revelers who need a simpler way to get a ride home Tuesday can get free access to taxi service.

It’s not a free taxi ride but free call to a service that will send the first taxi to, borrowing from Boost’s former ad  campaign, where you at. 

Subscribers of the pre-paid service just need to dial #TAXI (that’s #-8-2-9-4) on their phone to be connected with the first available cab company in the area. The taxi call service, created by CellWand Communications, usually costs $1.29.

The Irvine company last offered this to customers on New Year’s Eve. 

By the way, the #TAXI service is also available to AT&T Wireless customers for $1.79 and Verizon Wireless and Alltel customers for $1.50. Or, for free, you can just dial 1-800-829-4222 (1-800-TAXI-CAB) and get connected to a local taxi company.

    This article took most of the bottom half of the OC Register Print Edition Business section. THIS WAS NEWS? Worth that much print and a photo? Lets see if we have this straight, Normally you have to dial 5 digits and pay $1.29 to call a cab but today only it is free. Any other day you can dial eleven digits: 1-800-TAXI-CAB and the other 365 days a year it is free too. So this is news why? Now I know why on page three of the business section there are articles of why newspapers are going out of business. I guess you really have run out of news to report. I am now ready to bet that the OC Register is not far behind in going bankrupt. Your reporting already is. You should be ashamed to have wasted space and our time with this non news article about nothing.

    Hi Keith
    The news is drunk driving is the number one cause of criminal death in N.America and all the ways to get a taxi easily if your ride gives out, if you had too much to drink or you are trying to get a friend home are important. #TAXI is not a free service although Boost Mobile and #TAXI have made it free for St Patrick’s Day – the benefit of #TAXI is it will keep dialing all available taxi company’s during peak times until the caller get’s into a dispatch – this happens a lot when bars let out on St Pat’s, New Years Eve, Halloween, Superbowl, March Madness etc. In addition, the service connects you to the first best available taxi company not the one that is paying 1-800 or other free services for passing on the call – sometimes you get what you pay for -
