The Irvine office of Verizon Wireless is beefing up its on-site customer service center and has 70 job openings. This is in addition to the 100 openings from early April, which, by the way, had an “overwhelming number of applicants,” said spokesman Ken Muche.
These, again, are customer service jobs. Verizon is looking for the type of person who can “listen and truly hear what’s being said” and “a certified problem solver,” according to the job description.
Amen! We need more of these types of customer service reps, especially in the telecom industry. While the company received stellar customer-service reviews from consumer-ranker J.D. Power, I still get occasional complaints about Verizon (and sorry folks, I can’t always help with that.)
“The 70 incremental jobs is to help us grow to meet our customers’ needs,” Muche said.
Much like the previous jobs, all Verizon employees get health care coverage from day one, a 401k program that matches 6 percent of salary, annual bonuses, profit sharing, a $20 maternity care program that covers nearly everything, and tuition reimbursement. There’s an adoption assistance program, temporary child or elder care, an on-site health club and diet-friendly lunches at its on-site cafeteria. Also, if you’re bilingual, you can earn an extra $1,500. Pay starts at $14.90 an hour.
And because Verizon initially gave me the wrong application info last time, causing readers to go berserk, Muche has listed the steps in applying:
Look for Job ID 233899.

Oh cool! Now we’ll only have to wait one hour instead of two to get help at the store.
Wow a whole $14.90 an hour.
That would work perfect for someone NOT living in Orange County.
oh my god. 70 job openings in a state of almost 40 million people!!!
I guess unemployment rate in California will go down after these 70 job openings.
Give us a break!!!.
If they can’t even tell you how to apply correctly the first time and they only pay $14.90 why would I choose that over possible unemployment. I am employed btw. They are a very unorganized company and way too expensive for the service they offer. Boycot Verizon is my stand!

So why not pull from the original posting?
re:MICKY – They should be forced to pay at least $24.90 an hour or move the jobs out of the country!
