I’ve heard that you need to get an antenna that is compatible with the converter box. Rabbit ears, foil and a metal coat hanger does not work. I convinced my neighbor to switch to U-verse. I’ve never seen a happier person talk about her TV before. Not plugging U-verse (well, yeah I am), but there are other alternatives that work well too.

Today (Tuesday, Jun 23) Chans 7 and 11 DTV are back and reception is fine with VHF/UHF amplified rabbit ears in Huntington Beach.. Auto scan today gives 60 DTV and 10 analog (vs. 63 and 17 before the switch) and all DTVs are back where they were before the switch. Many analogs gone.

Chan 13 is a mystery. They were only analog before but did transmit DTV at 13-1 for some hours the day before the switch. Nothing now.

Called kttv the helpline. Answer is that there is some problems with the antenna and they are working the problem. It might take a week to get it fixed.

I’m happy with that answer. I bet chan 7 and 13 are on the same antenna. We’ll see in a week, I hope.

I have a Sharp HDTV with GE Optima indoor antenna. My TV used to show 2,4,5,7,9,11,13,18,28,30.. (all digital) and other channel with solid receptions prior to 12th June. I live in Irvine and after digital conversion I am not getting channel 11 KTTV. I also had trouble getting channel 7 and 13. After optimizing antenna position and rescaning I got them.
I think kttv engineers have messed up the digital transmitter’s setting.
I have contacted kttv dtv helpline 866-620-9089 and informed my the situation. I would suggest others too to call them , it may pressurize kttv engineers to optimize the transmitter.

If you’re still having problems, you should try calling the stations because they would know first (hopefully) what’s up with their signal:
- Channel 7, ABC7 Main Line: (818) 863-7777
- Channel 11 & 13 are part of Fox. Special DTV hotline: 866-620-9089 (offers more info for troubleshooting)

Hmm, that fortunately rules out the possibility that it is our equipment since you have a UHF/VHF antenna. My question is anyone else ezperieincing a loss of signal on 11,13 digital channels? I highly doubt it’s our vizio tv. My compute tv tuner and tv with convertor box are experiencing the same. Granted, it might be my distance (irvine) but why all of a sudden?

I have a UHF/VHF RCA rabbit ears antenna (with a amplifier that plugs into the wall).. Chan 9 DTV is super and always has been. My chans 7, 11, and 13 DTV suddenly went “no signal” on Saturday. Chans 7, 11 and 13 DTV had been just fine and then….no signal. It might be the Vizio (?) My TV did burp and get stuck “on” for some minutes this weekend and I did the fool-proof correction (take plug out of wall, reinsert) and it finally played correctly again???

I haven’t seen any discussion about digital sub channels on cable! Digital broadcasters have the ability to broadcast multiple channels of programming, which appears as a decimal number in the tuner (4.2, for example). Some of these show up on Time Warner Cable line ups, but most are NOT present..

The idea that “hey I have cable, I don’t need to worry” doesn’t hold water. Some of these sub channels have excellent programming, and many give you the kinds of specialized programming formerly reserved to cable with it’s vast number of channels. Think dedicated weather channels, for example. Time Warner does carry a few of these, but who decides what to carry?

Art, our problems are very similar. I’m down in irvine. Everything worked fine. I feel like it has to do with a shift from UHF to VHF. I have a UHF only antenna, except my UHF/VHF antennas that I have at home are also weak in terms of 9-13. My Vizio jumps gets 2,4,5,7,..jumps straight to 18 and so on….Anyone else experiencing this? Again, Art, if you’re using a UHF/VHF rabbit ear set, then my hypothesis is rejected, which is what I woudl like to hear. I’d definitely prefer it be their fault and not our equipment..because I’d rather not waste money on a new antenna!

PS: To clarify, I have a Phillips UHF indoor/outdoor flat antenna that runs around 40 bucks at Walmart/Lowes…It’s fairly new, around a few years old and is still on the market.

…hit wrong key…to continue..Then Sunday, wham, no Chan 7, 11 or 13 at all. I have been auto searching twice a day: 63 digital, 13 analog. Alas, no 7, 11 or 13. If there are others with the same problem one has to suspect the transmission.

Recepetion from government’s map shows strong (Huntingtn Beach). My rabbit ears is an RCA with a amplfier provided by the power cord into a wall. My reception has been excellent since I got the Vizio HDTV last September except for an occasional adjustment that all rabbit ears seem to require as if passing by the antenna it feels its feeling have been hurt. Chans 7 and 11 DTV have been fine, 13 was only analog until Saturday night when all of a sudden 13 DTV came on. Then Sunday, wham, no Chan 7, 1

No 9, 11 or 13. Same here. I have had HDTV and rabbit ears for months. Received analog and DTVs just fine. On June 11th chans 9, 11, and 13 DTVs were great–on Jun 12 Chans 9, 11 and 13 DTVs disappeared. I’ve done auto search every day, alas, no 9, 11 or 13.

I bet they changed transmitters/antennas and screwed it up. Fess up and fix it guys.

I’m having trouble all of a sudden getting 9.1, 11.1, 13.1 (Digital channels of 9, 11,13)….They were working fine up until a few days ago. I have an HDTV with tuner and Phillips UHF Attenna. They’ve all been working fine prior to 12-June, not those channels are no longer functioning. (the whole convertor box thing does not apply to me, as i have an HDTV with tuner–just to clarify haha)

Guess tomorrow I will be reading more or surfing the net at 56K from now on (phone lines too old for DSL, FIOS, U-Verse)
