Thanks Tim. Good point. Starter packages for U-verse and FiOS aren't the cheapest around.

I'm in a U-Verse area & constantly get sales calls to switch to U-Verse. I currently have Dish Network & AT&T DSL.

Initially I was interested in just upgrading my internet service only, but AT&T forced you to get a bundle package of TV & internet. I have been satisfied w/my satellite package. Pricing of their TV service was high IMO & did not offer enough of a incentive for me to switch so I have stayed put with what I have. I last checked & it seems you could now order internet only w/o TV service, but the installation charge to do so seems bit high. If you sign up for TV & internet together, the installation is free. I understand they need to recoup their upfront costs, but there just isn't enough for me to make the switch.

Hey Rob, I mentioned that last month <a href="http://gadgetress.freedomblogging.com/2009/06/05/oh-no-u-verse-rollout-slowing-down/15137/" rel="nofollow">"Oh no! U-verse rollout slowing down"</a>. Same with <a href="http://gadgetress.freedomblogging.com/2009/05/13/verizons-fios-tv-rollout-slows-in-so-cal/13677/" rel="nofollow">FiOS,</a> which is focusing on marketing to residents living in built-FiOS neigborhoods. What I want to know is why are these people choosing cable/satellite/nothing over FiOS? Anyone?

The saddest part of this story is not mentioned... AT&T seems uninterested in rolling the service out much beyond the seedlings it's planted in communities. To me the scale of costs would be much reduced if the service became generally available. I can't imagine a logical reason to build-out as slowly as AT&T has. The only one I can find is that AT&T is not convinced of their products long range success and thus is reluctant to pour good money after bad. That makes me truly sad. I really think the market could support more competition.

THEY STILL HAVE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVE NOT SOLVE WHICH IS THE REMOTE CONTROL USE TO MUCH BATTERY POWER AND NO WAY TO SAVE THE RECORDING MOVIES OR SHOWS IF THE DVR BOX IS BAD. I WENT THROUGH 5 BOXES IN LESS THAN A YEAR. ALSO THE RECORDING BOX NEVER START OR END ON TIME

This update hit my house last friday and despite glitches for a couple of hours, everything is running great. No problems here in Orange. AND there is a free Uverse app for the iPhone - iTouch where you can manage your DVR in real time. VERY COOL !!!!!

I've had U-verse for several months. Although being able to watch the DVR in any room is great, I can't seem to keep the system working.

I have to reset my main DVR box every time I turn on the TV in order to receive a picture in my living room (the HD-DVR box). I'm on my 2nd HD-DVR and it has now failed also. I'm going back to DirecTV. I never had any of those problems with DirecTV. I only switched to give it a try, and it failed.

Over a year ago AT&T was talking about this happening in the next six months, and it's just now going into effect? Wow.

Too bad you can't get the service most places. The service sounds great...if you're one of the small percentage of customers that can actually get it.

I had a streaming problem but had a few connections and splitters coming into my house replaced. That fixed the streaming problem. Overall the system works great. I guess it depends on how complicated your setup is. I have two remotes, the AT & T (change channels and turn on the TV) and the universal which controls home theater, DVD and TV (which I use sparingly). The AT&T remote does control the TV and home theater just fine on Panasonic equipment. How nice it is to be able to record, delete and watch shows on a different TV and not have someone yell from another room to record a show. Priceless.

Bubba, besides third party control problems how about other features for someone that has a simple setup? A full "suck" rating?

The AT&T system just sucks. The remote controls will not program to 3rd party type universal remotes. I am a home automater and have had this problem more than once. The code set is just weird. And the system is very slow to respond when streeming content off the DVR to other rooms.
