This tip is fine EXCEPT the disk check part... NO ONE should EVER run diskcheck with the find errors AND fix automatically boxes checked!!! I just spent many hours restoring a clients system because of this!!

It is fine for a non-professional to scan for errors, if they feel so inclined. I do not EVER run check disk, unless there are specific disc errors occurring. This is not a program to be taken lightly, and NEVER autofix without a FULL and COMPLETE system backup. All the files backed up, unless you want to potentially reinstall the OS. I've been working on computers professionally since 1996 and played with them before that... I've seen checkdsk completely destroy more than 10 drives in the last 13 years. Not all that many, unless yours was one of the 10 drives!

I let the "ad" slide since PerfectDisk appears to be legit. I haven't tested it out though...

There are many defrag solutions out there PerfectDisk, the Internal Windows defrag solution and others. I believe that PerfectDisk is the most effective, not only from defrag point of view but also for a very effective consolidation of free space, which reduces future fragmentation.

Your article is very informative, and full of great suggestions, keep it up!

I recommend installing Diskeeper in the automatic mode to solve the problem of defragging manually or scheduling tasks which can easily be missed with the PC being powered off at the time. Its the best defragger I have used and I no longer bother to remember about defrag.
