Add another HD channel to the ring: MSNBC HD, which showed up on channel 209 for Dish Network customers this week.
Dish’s press release says it’s the “first and only pay-TV provider to offer the channel to consumers nationwide.”
Technically true, but Dish isn’t the first to offer the channel. East Coast cable provider Cablevision began offering MSNBC HD in June.
And, according to trade mag Broadcasting & Cable, the newly launched HD channel should show up for Time Warner customers later this month. B&C also reports that by the end of August, MSNBC HD will be available in 11 million homes nationwide.
That brings the Dish’s HD offerings to 140 channels, although I have them at 94. Will have to do more sleuthing to see what those missing channels are.

I’m wondering how many of the 124 DirecTV offer are regional sports networks that are not available to everyone. Also, how many of those are counted twice because of East and West coast feeds of the same channel?
20 of DirecTV’s 124 HD channels are regional sports networks, according to my count. You’re also right on the East/West feeds overlap, but since all the TV services count those as separate channels, so did I. I’m planning to post my list of channels to show readers how I come up with this list all the time.
Thanks for considering posting a channel comparison list- good idea. Also curious about the dollar for dollar match-up for these channels. I’ve considering switching to the carriers that have more HD channels but am concerned that the price would double on me… I don’t trust the carrier’s own advertised comparison lists that they put on their websites…thanks
