I stumbled across Panasonic Global via AVforums, and I find out that they can get loads of DVD recorders in the U.K. I checked to see if Canada can get stuff we can't, nope... they get less than we do.
But Mexico can get Blu-Ray recorders, and maybe other stuff that we can't. I can't tell since they use different model numbers... and a different language.

Much more stuff to see on their site, and Blu-Ray recorders coming too:

Are any of the other companies going to bring HDD DVRs' to the United States ? Philips and Magnavox had some, but they seem to have with drawn from the market, except for WalMart carries a Magnavox that you have to order from their on-line site.

I've been wondering why the market hasn't been flooded with DVD-HDD recorders, and I thought maybe it was because of Blu-Ray becoming the next step-up in DVD. Tivo has lawsuits going on over a lot of things, and it's keeping the good stuff locked out of the U.S.A.
