It’s nice to know that Orange County’s youth is benefiting from the company that will sell you service for an iPhone.
AT&T presented a $328,460 check to members of the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America just before the Los Angeles Angels got ready to pound the New York Yankees in Anaheim.
The money was raised during the 11th annual AT&T Classic golf tournament. Proceeds each year go to Scoutreach, a program to help disadvantaged children participate in Boy Scouts. It also helps the Council’s Learning for Life program, which builds programs to help schools and youth organizations.
Since its 1998 inception, the tournament has raised $3.2 million in net proceeds — all of which has gone to the Orange County organization.

The funds will provide local youth a chance to participate in character-building and leadership opportunities.
“Without AT&T’s help and the fundraising efforts of this annual golf tournament and silent auction, these programs would be unable to sustain themselves, leaving more than 32,000 youth without the character-building and leadership opportunities that the Orange County Council provides,” Les Baron, scout executive, The Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America, said in a statement.
There is still good in our world…just because we are corporate America does not mean that we cannot give back. I love seeing how major businesses still keep our youth in mind as the future go getters of our society. Good Job AT&T!!! And THANK YOU!!!!
at least the money will go to educating and showing our youth proper attitudes and values for a successful life.
Hooray! Disadvantaged youth will get a leg up, thanks to the Boy Scouts of America and AT&T. Unless any of these youth are homosexuals. Then nuts to them!
According to the BSA, gays are not “morally straight” as required by Scout Law. So — Horray! Certain pre-approved youth who are already morally straight will get to improve their character even more by learning that homosexuals are immoral and unworthy of joining the Scouts! We need more homophobic youth like that!
And anyone who doesn’t believe in God can just continue to rot! You must believe in God — any god will due, mind you, as long as you pick one — to be a scout!
So…hooray for god-fearing, heterosexual youth who will gain an advantage over those immoral, agnostic gay youth who don’t deserve a chance in hell, which is where they are obviously going anyway! They aren’t worth bothering over!
Stay classy AT&T!
David – There are programs that donate to youth that don’t believe in God and are homosexual – but what a private organization like AT&T decides to do with their own money is up to them.
Just so everyone will know, scouts are taught to be respectful of the beliefs of others – regardless of their religious or sexual orientation. The National Council is very adamant on this.
Everyone has the right to exercise their own beliefs. But you want to talk about tolerance? From what I’ve seen – Straight and God Fearing people seem to be more tolerant of the beliefs of gays and atheists than gays and atheists are towards straights and those that believe in God.
I agree with Will Rogers… “The only thing wrong about Boy Scouts is that there is not enough of them”.
Thanks AT&T
Guess that will cover Les’s salary for the year.
