AT&T U-verse

Thanks everyone who left a comment about AT&T U-verse availability in your neighborhood. I’m going to update my map. Stay tuned for a link… For everyone else, please continue to let me know by commenting below if you can order U-verse.
————————–

Slowly but surely, AT&T’s TV service called U-verse is popping up in cities across the state. The company says the service, an alternative to cable TV, is now available to 3 million homes in California.

Service, however, is not available to everyone living in the 225 cities and counties where U-verse is offered statewide. This is because AT&T relies on local city governments to allow facility upgrades within neighborhoods and not all cities have obliged, saying they don’t want more ugly boxes decorating city streets.

In Orange County, U-verse is available in certain parts of  Aliso Viejo, Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, La Habra, La Palma, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Orange, Placentia, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana, Stanton, Villa Park, Westminster, and Yorba Linda.

Originally, AT&T had targeted more cities but dropped its pursuit after running into roadblocks with the cities. Those cities include Irvine, Laguna Woods, Newport Beach, San Clemente and Tustin. (See earlier coverage on the slowdown in Orange County on this page: “The AT&T U-verse impasse in O.C.

Question of the day: Can you order AT&T U-verse TV at your house? Help me track the service and tell me where you are by leaving a comment below. Leaving your zip code would be informative. Thanks!

But as part of this week’s announcement, the company says it invested nearly $7.9 billion in wireless and wireline (which includes U-verse) networks in the state between 2006 and 2008. It even quotes Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle, who applauds AT&T’s move:

“I have always believed that choice and competition in the marketplace benefits consumers,” said Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle. “AT&T’s commitment to deliver a choice for video and high-speed Internet to the residents of Anaheim, and to hundreds of other cities across the state, has only reinforced this belief. Consumers win when businesses compete.”

There’s no mention of how many of those 3 million potential customers actually subscribe. Those numbers could possibly come out Thursday during the company’s next earnings report.

At last count, AT&T U-verse’s TV service had 1.6 million subscribers nationwide in June (see earlier: “AT&T’s U-verse TV jumps to 1.6 million subscribers“). Comparably, Verizon FiOS, another new cable TV alternative, had 2.5 million customers. Both services continue to grow while cable TV companies reported a decline in subscribers.

  • rambo says:

  • Lisa says:

WOW!!! 1.6MM homes now and out of that 1.6MM count of “happy” customers I am the (1) customer that was NOT satistifed with ATT U-Verse. To this day I am being harrassed by them and not once has a supervisor ever called me to hear my issues. If someone would have even made an attempt to show that they care for my business I might have stayed a customer, but I went back to Directv.

Not available on Palm Dr in Fullerton, 92831. They say I am too far away from the central office.

  • Mary says:

City of Riverside offers it. I love it! Better than other companies offering similar services.

  • John says:

I have it in Burbank. Love it!

  • hanhster says:

I’m in Orange zip 92867 and it’s not offered. I’m stuck w. Time Warner and I hate them.

  • Tim says:

I live in Orange and still can’t order U-verse (I’m located between Orange Park Acres and Villa Park).

  • Andrew says:

We are able to get it in north Brea – 92821

  • OC says:

I only know one person who has AT&T’s service. He is not happy with it. He said it doesn’t work properly when more than one TV is being used.

  • Deb says:

I can’t get Uverse either, the key to getting it is they have to install a piece of equipment next to the outside facility box in each neighborhood called a VRad, I am not sure what the priority of this is but I would stand out there with lemonade and cookies for the installers if they would install it in my area of Laguna Niguel (Lake Park)

  • Vickie says:

I’m in Anaheim (92805) and I have U-Verse. I love it. It’s so much better than cable and the DVR is fantastic.

  • Nasty53 says:

I jumped from Cox to AT&T. Hated it, don’t let the sales guy mislead you. You cannot keep your old cox email, cox internet is faster. You cannot record 4 HD channels or watch any other sets on another channel while recording 2 HD channels. Phone has background noise. I AM GOING BACK TO COX.

  • s says:

An AT&T sales guy came by our house last week: Irvine, 92606. I told him that we don’t have any kind of TV. Just a Netflix subscription. He couldn’t beat $9 a month.

  • MIKEYKRUD says:

Alhambra, Ca checking in! There is a huge amount of channels but there are some drawbacks. The HD quality is not as good as Charter cable and the DVR remote does not have SLOW MOTION! The cool thing is that you can pause tv in one room and press play in the other. You can also record up to 4 shows at once. AT&T if you are reading this hire me please.

  • Brian says:

I had it in Laguna Hills for the first half of this year. But then we moved to Newport and it’s not available here. I live in the Santa Ana Heights area (near Mesa & Bayview), and there is project that just started to underground the utilities. I’m hoping, and haven’t been able to get anyone to confirm or deny, that AT&T will use this opportunity to run fiber in the area and start providing U-Verse service. The markings on the streets, before the project started, seemed to show several large underground vaults labeled AT&T/phone.

  • Stan says:

I would consider it if they went back to Dish as the TV provider. I really dislike Direct TV.

  • green-ray says:

You can’t break it down by ZIP Code. I live in 92866 (Orange) and cannot get it, but a few blocks away in same ZIP, it IS available. Same with 92867 in Orange. A commenter above can’t get it, but I know someone in that ZIP who can.

  • Yorba Linda says:

    No go in 92887, figures!

  • Sandy says:

We have had Uverse for about 8 months and love it. No problems so far, we live in Anaheim

  • eb says:

Available in my part of 92887 … but more expensive than TWC for what I have….and when I went to TWC and told them I was considering ATT … they reduced the price even more.

  • Tony says:

Not available in Lake Forest, 92630… wish it was though

  • D says:

No go here in 92614. Still getting hosed by the Irvine Company. =P

  • CUY says:
