DirecTV accused of lying about number of HD channels

November 2nd, 2009, 12:47 pm · 5 Comments · posted by Tamara Chuang, a.k.a. The Gadgetress

Spotted: Phillip Swann, who tracks the TV industry at TVPredictions, calls out DirecTV on its claims to be the top provider of HD channels.

“So, how does DIRECTV hide this fact in its marketing campaigns? And, how does it still claim to be the nation’s HD leader?
Lie, of course.”

Ouch! He writes that DirecTV’s claim to have 130 HD channels includes 18 pay-per-view channels and “other sleight-of-hand tricks.” If you care about the controversy or to see how your TV provider stacks up, see his report at “DIRECTV: Still Lying About HDTV.”

Direct Tv are theives!! I called to inquire of service they asked for my cc number and ss number for a credit check. I called hours later to tell them I was going to stay with my current service provider, next thing you know a $484.00 cancellation fee was gone from my bank account!!

I do not recommend even calling them, they lie about everything promotions channels and fee’s. Fraud!!

  • Fred says:

I agree I wish everyone would cancel service. This company charged me for channels I never even signed up for I called and told them I did not have them they told me basically too bad and that I should have read the fine print and pay my bill!!

    I’ll never go with direct.

They also damages my big screen and said they would repair or replace and never did. But they did debit my account for unknown fee’s upon cancellation. $545.00

  • Leslie says:

Direct TV broke a frame while installing and out a big gash on my tv entertainment center, no apologies, no courtesy of fixing.

As soon as my contract is over I’m out

  • Eric says:

I agree DirecTV have poor customer service. Even their complain manager or assistant to the President lie. All he can say was I’m sorry that this happen to you. So as soon as my contract expire I’m out. If somebody is reading this be warned, if you’re planning to have DirecTV I would think twide for having them.

Directv ? Never again unless you want to be robbed. I had a bad bad experience with Directv where they hardsold their products and then forced for payment at a later date by all improper means including engaging collecting agent. Furthemore, Directv never take a responsible attitude in that they never answer your complaint and/or enquires. To make it worse, their agent might simply disappear shortly after you paid Directv upon their agent’s promise to reimburse you. All these details can be seen in the records of Better Business Bureau. BBB could not help as Directv simply ignore BBB’s enquiries.
