Every year before Thanksgiving, Vizio tells consumers ahead of time how much prices will drop for special Black Friday sales. So maybe it’s not surprise that the company was rewarded with record-breaking sales.
The Irvine HDTV seller said this morning that U.S. consumers bought more than 280,000 HDTVs last week, up 40 percent from last year’s Black Friday sales. Vizio credited stores like Costco Wholesale and Sam’s Club for efficiently selling the TVs.
But it’s also new technology that probably wowed consumers. Vizio’s new TruLED technology inside brightens up the picture as necessary. Faster 120/240 Hz refresh rates to help keep video smooth during fast-moving scenes.
More than 50,000 120/240 Hz HDTVs were sold, up 945 percent from the same time last year. Vizio also pointed out that consumers snapped up 50-inch TVs or larger, with the company selling 20,000 of them, or 1,000 percent more than last year.
It’s a great way for the company to end the year, which included rising to the top of the U.S. LCD TV heap, winning some key patent fights and expanding into TV accessories business with a new speaker bar, video cables and a Blu-ray Disc player.
But, of course, the year isn’t quite over. Beginning Thursday, Vizio is taking $100 off its 40-inch LCD HDTV (VO400E). The $599.99 TV will be at Costco between Dec. 3 to Dec. 20. At Walmart, a 19-inch TV is now $178 through the end of the year.
“We consistently strive to offer consumers more and are pleased to see the great success of our high performance products which allow us to continue to grow and expand VIZIO products to a wider range of consumers seeking the latest technology at a great value,” Laynie Newsome VIZIO Co-founder and V.P. Sales and Marketing Communications, said in a statement.

It is a 1080 P, bad news, it’s a Vizio. Still Krap.
Great Low cost TV…but why did they stop making the 60 inch plasma
Couldn’t make money off it I guess. Neither could Pioneer.
good for them. i wish i owned that company.
Agreed, I’d rather buy a used quality set over a new Vizio. Cheap cost = cheap picture quality.
am i the only one who noticed this:

You guys are such jokers. Vizio only has a very slightly reduced picture to all but the top 1% of vidophiles/ audiophiles.. well guess what, Vizio isn’t for you. I have been an audiophile all my life, and spend thousands on my sound system. I have 4 vizios in my house right now and they are amazing. The LED screen is epic, hooked up to a crystal clear Directv signal.
Anyone that says Vizio “sucks” is just a typical uneducated fool.
Anybody that buys a Vizio TV is just a typical WalMart shopper, cheapest price is their only concern. Anybody that claims to be a videophile and uses the words “amazing” and “Vizio” in the same sentence is an uneducated fool.
Vizio is something that is not high quality nor provides the clarity and technology that several other brands have. Yes, they do have some of the same features, but I suspect many people can tell the differences between two brands. Many people are only looking at a couple of specific parameters (HDMI inputs, 1080p, etc), and say that if a Vizio TV sells for hundreds less, then it is a better deal. I do not agree with this assessment, but then again, there are many people out there who do.
Your argument is contradictory as well. You say that only “vidophiles” can tell the difference, but then say that people who think Vizio “sucks” are uneducated. That makes no sense.
In response to OC Douchebag’s question, they stopped making the 60 inch plasma because it will be banned by 2011. Plasmas are considered “engery guzzlers” and it will be illegal to sell in less than a month. Although you are still able to purchase plasma tv’s, manufacturers are no longer making them. As for this article, I’m glad so many tvs sold. Keep buying!!

instead of worrying about selling the most cheapo tv’s, maybe if Vizio would put about 10% more quality into their products, then maybe more people like me ready to buy their first HDTV would buy one. yes, there are people who actually care about owning a nice piece of electronics rather than a disposable set that will last 2 years and then need to be replaced, with a residual value of $0.
i see it as a genius marketing scheme. first off the number are staggering, the amount percentage wise of the increase is off the charts, setting vizio up to eventually be one of the true leaders in the tv world. but making a cheap tav that of course will entice everyone to buy (my roommate actually has a 42 inch in our room and i think its great) and who cares if it dies after a couple of years because at that point there will no doubt be bigger better faster nicer and all around more awesome tv and most likely at a much cheaper price.
It is a great marketing scheme by Vizio, but when looking at the quality of the good instead of the price tag I would not purchase one
