Time Warner channel changes this week, HD recap

Time Warner Cable signAs mentioned earlier, Time Warner Cable is switching some channels around in Orange County to make room for more high-definition channels. That’s great news for the majority of customers, but there is some negative impact on broadcast or basic cable subscribers who may no longer receive some channels (those folks can read more about that at “Time Warner makes room for 100 HD channels, kicks out others“).

Many changes begin this week that I wanted to recap for readers. According to Time Warner’s “Programming Alerts” for Southern California customers, here’s a look at what’s happening in Orange County.

New HD channels:

These new HD channels for Tustin, Costa Mesa, Cypress and La Palma subscribers launch on Dec. 10:

  7. MSNBC HD 446

These new HD channels launch Dec. 10 to Buena Park, Fullerton, Newport Beach, Placentia, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Anaheim, Brea, La Habra, La Habra Heights and Yorba Linda customers and Orange (updated 12:27 p.m.):

  2. ESPNU HD 467
  3. Disney XD HD 461
  4. The Weather Channel HD 454

New channels:

  • GMA Pinoy, a Filipino channel, will be offered as a premium channel on channel 68 in most parts of Orange County.
  • NASA Channel joins the Choice Tier on channel 234. Most Orange County subscribers already get this channel.
  • KMEX HD, a Spanish language channel on 400
  • KFTR HD, (Telefutura) channel 399
  • ET Drama, a Chinese-language (Madarin) channel on 630, available as a premium
  • ET YOYO, channel 631, Premium
  • ET China, channel 632, Premium
  • KXLA 44.3, an Asian programming channel, on 659

Channel/tier changes:

  • Style Network is moving from the basic cable tier on channel 63 and 130 to the digital variety tier on channel 130.
  • Sundance will move from the Choice Tier and Movie Tier to Variety Tier and Movie Tier
  • NBA TV, channels 262 and 735, will be added to Variety Tier. It will continue to be available on Sports Tier also.
  • Playboy TV will move from channel 771 to channel 541. Playboy En Espanol will move from channel 772 to channel 542.

Duplicate channels:

  • Korean channel MBC will also be available on channel 650, along with the existing 603 in Rancho Cucamonga, Anaheim, Brea, La Habra, La Habra Heights, Yorba Linda, Buena Park, Fullerton, Newport Beach, Placentia, Santa Ana and Seal Beach.
  • TFC, on channel 601, will also be available on channel 680.
  • TV Asia, on channel 608, will also be available on channel 670.
  • Zee TV, on channel 609, will also be available on channel 671.
  • GMA Pinoy, on channel 602 will also be available on channel 681 in Costa Mesa, Cypress and La Palma.

Changes for Spanish-language channels, beginning Dec. 10:

  • UMEX, channel 800, Broadcast (digital format)
  • TFTR, channel 801, Broadcast (digital format)
  • Venemovies, channel 837, El Paquetazo Dos Tier
  • Multimedios, channel 804, El Paqetazo Dos Tier
  • Teleformula, channel 813, El Paqetazo Dos Tier
  • Sur Peru, channel 817, El Paquetazo Dos Tier
  • KSCI 18.4 (CGN), channel 658, Broadcast (digital equipment needed)
  • KSCI 18.5 (US Armenia), channel 695, Broadcast (digital format)
  • KSCI18.7 (VANTV), channel 600, Broadcast (digital format)
  • KSCI 18.8, channel, 638, Broadcast (digital format)
  • SET Asia, channel 672, Premium
  • Sahara Filmy, channel 673, Premium
  • GMA Life, channel 682, Premium
  • TVK2, channel 655, Choice Tier

    When will TWC customers in Orange get those new HD channels?

      Orange, in fact, most of Orange County is in the second group listed. /Dan

    • Yes, Orange is included in the Dec. 10 group. I just double checked with Time Warner, all of O.C. will be getting these HD channels by Dec. 10. Ping me if you don’t see them!

        I noticed Turner Classic Movies (HD 478) is in the first group but not the second group listed (I live in Huntington Beach). I called Time Warner and Gloria told me some other HD channels may be coming before the end of the year, but she didn’t know if Turner Classic Movies would be one of them. The HB needs its TCM in HD!

    Time to go back to watching TV with the old antenna line-up, channels 2 thru 13 with some UHF stations. TWC is getting sh*ttier.

    Are these new channels QAM in the clear? I can’t find ABC family. I’m using the TV’s internal digital tuner and no cable box.

    I live in Fountain Valley and I am missing BBC America HD that is supposed to be on 448… I have tried both my cable card TiVo and my regular HD Cable box..

    Hi, when I signed up for Time Warner there were two Armenian channels no there are none. Does Time Warner have any Armenian channel?

    I tried wgn hd channel 458 and it doesn’t work at all. And I tried channel 454 for the weather channel hd and it doesn’t work either. I hope those hd channels work soon when baseball season starts because i’m not going to watch the cubs in digtal because it looks terrible I want hd please,

    I live in Dallas Texas and some of my favorite channels are G4 and Comedy Central and although they say that they are now available in HD,time warner does not have them listed on their HD services.Ive called and asked about it and even requested them to add them in HD.

    Does anyone know when the people in Dallas should be getting these channels in HD? Thanks.
