As of 4 p.m., Time Warner has settled its contract dispute with News Corp., allowing cable customers to continue watching Fox TV.
Terms were not disclosed. The New York Times reports that News Corp. wanted $1 per subscriber per month, whereas Time Warner wanted to pay much less:
“In tense negotiations with Time Warner Cable, Fox had demanded about a dollar a subscriber per month, far more than other stations have received. Time Warner Cable thought 30 cents was more reasonable, said people briefed on the talks who insisted on anonymity because the specifics of the talks were confidential. Most likely, the two companies reached a compromise on the price, but both refused to comment Friday on the figure.”

Both sides updated their web sites targeting consumers with the announcement:

Fox: KeepFoxOn.com

What a colossal waste of time.
Two horribly greedy companies come to an agreement, WOW!
Now that that’s over with. Let’s talk about adding something similar to AT&T’s U-verse to our services.
Why aren’t the terms being disclosed? They had no problem dragging their customers into this whole drama but now that an agreement has been reached, they won’t share the info? Nice….shadiness and greed. Glad I cancelled Time Warner yesterday.
Good for you. I just might do the same.
I think this was all a stunt on Time Warner’s part to get free publicity. I don’t think that TWC ever intended to take a stand on this issue. This just makes it possible to raise rates again in March or April after raising them this month. I bet there management and half of there employees even use TWC as there cable company. I can’t believe that they won’t disclose the terms. I could have forgone the shows that I enjoy.
Now it’s CBS, ABC, and NBC’s turn to take TWC customers to the cleaners. The cost is always pasted on to the consumers.
If TWC wants to hold down the cost of programing, I think it would have to purchase some stations.
TWX said that TWC didn’t benefit from the ownership of the cable stations that it owned; However, Comcast feels it would benefit from the ownership of NBC Universal. Maybe Disney, Viacom, or Fox might want to kick the tires of TWC to see of they could benefit from owning TWC.
Don’t they both make enough money! I knew nothing would happen anyway. Scare tactics. lol
Another thing if they continue to raise their fees I’m going elsewhere.
If your like me and are tired of these greedy TV execs asking for more, why not try broadcast tv? You don’t have to worry about Fox not being broadcast, and with the new digital signal, all of your programming will be in HD. (without additional HD fees that cable charges)
Check out http://www.cheaper-tv.com if you would like to learn how to cut the cable.
BTW- Why do I get spanish channels? I don’t watch those channels. So isn’t it the same thing? Please take those channels away if your customers do not watch them Time Warner.
What I understand is that TWC is required to care them by law and therefore we have have them even though we don’t want them or watch them. Ha ha!
I’ll tell you what the terms are. They are going to raise Cable rates. There you have it now.
I can’t wait to get back to DirectTV, this whole mess sucked.
How do you feel paying for the privilege of cable only to have to sit through a bunch of commercials and bad television?
I cut the cord many years ago . . . if it isn’t broadcast over the airwaves, I’m not watching it, and I’m DEFINITELY not paying for it.
Right On Brother! Give me an AMEN!
Between my home-made coat hangar antenna and a HTPC, I have more television now than any other time in my life. I save over $50 per month by eliminating cable TV and satellite. Both are banished forever.
(Okay, I do admit to missing CNN and Fox News–yes, I watched both.)
ABC is next, then CBS and NBC. When the doors of the smoke-filled room open up after negotiations, it is the consumer that pays the price.
Rememer when cable actually was commercial free programming and thats why people paid extra for such programming…
Sharon is right we the consumers will be paying for it regardless in another price hike. My guess is will be more than a dollar!!!
Did I mention that the new Hulu client is very very good?
Hey Tamara: How many years away are we from a complete paradigm shift in television? It seems like applications, for instance, Boxee, Hulu, XBMC, and that WD gizmo are the future.
What a waste of time and “News”
I was so glad to hear we may not have fox.
They are so one sided.
Then, o well thats why we have a remote
BTW I wonder how much the cable price will go up
It’s ridiculous to me why dumb people continue to pay for cable or any other service when we have all this other great technology like internet and high definition digital tv service to watch our tv programming. I’ve left satellite service ever since I bought a good outdoor tv antennae and the tv signal went digital. I’m so happy that I won’t switch ever again. If I want to watch a movie I just go to redbox.
FOX and TWC suck. End of discussion.
