Vizio announces biggest, priciest HDTV (yup, it’s 3D)

Vizio's new XVTPro 720SV, a 72-inch 3D, LED HDTVWith the annual gadget fest just days away, Irvine-based Vizio decided to unveil its HDTV lineup for 2010. And what a stunner: A 72-inch HDTV packed with goodies like 3D technology, wireless HDMI, Internet and, of course, the usual LED,  plus refresh rates of 480Hz.

And the price? Just $3,499!!

Okay, it’s not the usual big, affordable HDTV from Vizio for less than $2,000. But looking at the stuff inside, the new Vizio XVTPRO720SV is probably lower priced than a rival’s 3D, LED, 72-inch TV. More on this later. I’ll be meeting with Vizio at the Consumer Electronics Show later this week and will offer a fuller report. Here’s Vizio’s press release.

Meanwhile, take a look at some of the specs and photos of Vizio’s upcoming TV, which is slated to go on sale in August 2010:

Oh, that’s just great. Last year I spent a lot of money on a new HDTV and a Blu-ray DVD player and now I’m supposed to get this when they become more available? In other words, more programming will be on 3D and I’m stuck with a non 3D TV? Hopefully most people won’t jump on the 3D bandwagon.

Not in this economy. Isn’t California suppose to enact a law later this year or next that will ban any Big Screen over 48-50 inches?

    This is stupid!!!!!

A TV is NOT 3D unless a cable company broadcast in true 3D..which it cant right now…and wont be able to until five to 8 years from now.

Its like HD, In the U.S do you know how we know we have HD?..because they SAY it is..but we dont have true HD like they do in Japan, if we did the broadcast would look like a blue ray DVD.

In order for cable companies to broadcast in true HD or 3d they would need to pull out all the cable they put underground back in 1981 and replace it with new cable that can handle the bandwidth of HD and 3D.

example: how can you shoot a tv show with regular cameras and when its broadcast slap HD on it?
True HD is shot with a HD camera, processed in HD, mastered in HD and broadcast in HD.

Question: can you your computer or tv cables from 1981 still handle your computers or TV now…NOPE…neither can theirs.

    Dont buy into this crap
the only reason why tv are changing so much is because back in 2001 a report came out that people were keeping tv for 20 years, and they wanted to find out how they can get you to buy one every five years.

I have a 17yr old 32 inch RCA tv in my bedroom, it looks better than the 60inch Vizio I have in my game room.

stay happy with what you have

It should be noted that HDTVs and HDTV programming started in November 1998, but even as recently as 2006 (the original year of the HDTV switchover), most people still didn’t own an HDTV.

Vizio’s are junk. I have a lot of problems with my 32 inch one. I’ll never buy another Vizio again.

    • Kay says:

I have a 32 inch Vizio and it works wonderfully. Haven’t had a problem at all. My mom has a Vizio in her office, my church uses Vizio monitors….seems like a good product to me.

  • Just a Girl says:

Well, the WirelessHD add on is super cool – so check that out! Although I’m not too hot on the 3D part. I’m certainly looking forward to getting rid of the cables between my TV and other devices.
So props to Vizio for that!

  • Just a Girl says:

    Oops, wrong link…..try again.

  • Chuck says:

I believe there will be a demand for smaller 3D HDTVs that are suitable for private settings, watching you-know-what.

  • Baddreams says:

I love my 37 inch Vizio I have had it for a couple of years and have not had one problem. Also love that it’s an American company.

WOW 72 inches I can’t wait! After August there are two types of people. One’s with 72 inch tv’s, and ones without. Also cant wait for 3D TV as much as I hate to say it, its the future.
