One-third inch? Ha! Vizio TV is even skinnier

Vizio Blade, a quarter-inch thick HDTV prototypeConsumer Electronics Show 2010 with The GadgetressBiggest, loudest, shiniest, skinniest! That’s what makes a fun Consumer Electronics Show. And in the skinniest TV category, looks like Irvine’s Vizio may be the winner.

While Samsung unveiled the LED 9000, a one-third-inch thick TV, Vizio was showing a sample of the Blade, so named for its quarter-inch thinness.

Apologies for the mediocre images. I saw this in Vizio’s dark exhibit suite and they wouldn’t allow flash.

The TV is a prototype, but it works. The Samsung model hides all the electronics inside the base of the TV. Vizio’s skinny prototype cheats a bit with a fatter back. The edge of the TV is pretty skinny though.

And of course, the Samsung model is supposed to be out this year.

Vizio was a nice surprise at Las Vegas. The company came out with a bunch of crazy new stuff that I wasn’t expecting since it’s better known as a firm that sells low-priced HDTVs. More to come.

In addition, is this a blog or a journalist column? The sentences are more slang than journalistic writing. Even if you don’t approve this comment, you’ll at least see that someone reads this :P

Isn’t it nice how many people can sit there and criticize your grammar or spelling? Isn’t is nice to know that there are people out there who believe they are the only one who spotted the mistake and just had to tell you and eveyone else about it so they can look good in their own eyes?

Tamara, thank you for this article. I think I will watch for this television when it finally comes out for sale. It is what I have been looking for. I can’t wait to see how much it will cost. I understand it is a prototype and prototypes generally do not come with a price yet.

As for the other bloggers (Vak Sambath ), gee you sure complain a lot. Keep in focus what this article is about. It is about new technology and gadgets. Not your self importance as an error catcher. :)

There is no one mentions about looking for self exposure here. Obviously, it is a journalist writing about the news. However, it’s also citizen journalism to want to help contribute to a story. There are plenty of news outlets that provide more information than this article.

P.S. This is the first time I’m reading the OCRegister online edition. I’m not a frequent reader of this product for the simple reasons like grammar issues! Let’s see hands down NY Times, can you spot their grammar errors?

I’m not referring about support for your grammar mistakes, have you ever been in school for peer editing? I have my content proofread all the time. Anyhow, enough babbling from me. My purpose was to be helpful and now you’ve gone and made some other unproductive twist. Kudos to you. Now you’ve scored brownie points with the author and I’m the bad guy.

  • Thanks all. I appreciate the comments. I’ve said before that I’m terrible at grammar even with spell check and an editor (he doesn’t always catch my fumbles either). But I do make an effort to correct any mistakes when I learn about them so keep them coming. And to readers like Hmmm… thanks for your support! By the way, in my experience, most prototypes don’t make it to the store. But hopefully Vizio will find a way to bring the Blade to the people at an affordable price!

oops…i’m sure u just spotted my grammar mistake. Take another brownie point. I’m sure the cyber world will see you as the savior or some messiah to rid all evil-doers. Haha.. Happy reading. Best of luck.
