AT&T said today that Orange County and Los Angeles customers can now get Caller ID on their TV.
The new feature pops up a message in a corner of the TV screen for 6 seconds so viewers can decide whether the caller is worth interrupting the TV program. Customers must subscribe to both AT&T U-verse TV and U-verse Voice telephone service to get this to work.
On-screen caller ID isn’t new. AT&T first launched the feature last November in other parts of the country. Cable companies have offered it for several years to customers who order the two related services. Verizon added it for FiOS users in Orange County in December.
The on-screen caller ID is free and it starts working automatically. The feature also pops up a message for new voice mail.
Interestingly, AT&T tosses out a statistic on how many customers are paying for Voice service: More than 67 percent of new customers for a total of 1 million, as of January.
U-verse service is only available in certain parts of certain Orange County cities. Here is the updated list of local cities: Aliso Viejo, Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, La Habra, La Palma, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Orange, Placentia, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana, Stanton, Villa Park, Westminster, and Yorba Linda.

Too bad we can’t get the service.
I have Uverse tv and voice and not working for me yet.
The problem with this service is if you have Mary over and Sue calls Mary will know that Sue is calling you.
Well if Mary is hot don’t watch TV.
When will caller id be coming to Georgia??????????I’ve been waiting very patiently for this feature. This should have been one of the first features U-verse offered.
There is a major snafu with the software taking way too much time to recognize the CID, interpert it, then send it to the TV. I work next to the VoIP group here in CT. We just saw a test on their setup. It takes 4 rings of the phone for the CID to appear on the screen. That means if the caller is hearing up to 6 rings in a Siemens switch and almost 7 rings in a 5E. So the feature remains off in most of the Country.
When is someone going to call UVerse on their false advertising. In every UVerse TV commercial boasting the ability to record 4 shows at once, it has a screen shot of the UVerse guide showing 4 show being recorded (red dot). However, the four shows shown are all HD channels. You can only use 2 HD channels (watch or record) at a time. It is a problem at my house when trying to watch and record multiple HD shows at the same time.
Have been a FIOS customer in Huntington Beach for a long time — and contacted Verizon to have the On-Screen caller ID, that your article stated was available, activated.
Verizon has Not rolled-out the updated feature and the supervisor I spoke with couldn’t give me a date when it would.
