Internet domain-name company Dotster will give away 500 coupons for a free domain name beginning 1 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Thursday, April 17. Anything goes, as long as the .com, .net, etc. is available.
So, for those who don’t want to pay Dotster’s usual $15.25 annual fee for a domain … When the clock strikes 1, click the “Happy Hour” banner ad on the company’s homepage to get the free coupon.
Dotster’s calling the giveaway a Happy Hour because it’s hoping to spend time talking up its other online services — Web hosting, site design and search engine optimization. As part of the promotion, Dotster will offer 10 percet off all Web hosting plans from April 17 to April 22.
Of course, you could always buy domains at Dynadot.com for $8.99 a year, which drops to $7.50 per domain if you’re spending $500+ a year. There are quite a few discounts for those registering domains in bulk or if you’re transferring your domain to a new company. Renewal discounts are harder to find but available. Always search for coupons (FatWallet has a several for GoDaddy). If anyone has other domain-registration tips to share, please share by commenting below.
