A funny video posted on YouTube might earn a film maker limited notoriety. But, if a Holstein cow is added, that film clip could earn someone a Gateway gaming computer system.
The Irvine computer maker recently announced a “Show Your Spots” contest, asking people to make a three-minute video that shows that must include a fake or real Holstein cow.The video has to show “what crazy, outrageous and funny things” the contestant would do to win the grand prize: a Gateway gaming computer and monitor. The company notes that contestants should not do anything illegal or hurt any humans or animals in the video.
The Gateway FX540XT desktop computer is not yet available for purchase. It was notably passed up for a “People’s Voice Award” nomination from CNet at the January Consumer Electronics Show in favor of the lower-priced FX7020. The FX540XT, coupled with the 30-inch Gateway XHD3000 monitor (which supports up to 1600p high-definition video), is the sole prize for the contest. The package is valued at just under $5,500.
Contest rules are are available on Gateway’s site. Submissions are due by March 31. I would have liked to tell you about the coolest videos submitted so far. But, as I write this post, Gateway’s instructions are the lone video posted on the YouTube group created for the contest.
Gateway employees will judge the submissions on creativity, humor, page views and “overall awesomeness.”
For cow fans out there, here are some facts about Holsteins from the Holstein Association:

- A mature Holstein cow stands 58 inches tall and weighs 1,500 pounds.
- Nine out of 10 dairy producers milk Holsteins.
