Circuit City, the store, is no longer in business but the name lives on online thanks to New York-based Systemax Inc., which bought the brand last May. Maybe that’s why CircuitCity.com can offer a desktop PC with 19-inch LCD screen and HP printer for $479.99. The Systemax ITX’s guts are basic —  Atom 230 processor, 1GB memory, 160 GB hard drive, Windows XP Home and DVD-RW burner. But the key here is that it’s about the size of a shoebox at 10.5 inches long and wide and 4.5 inches thick — perfect for a dorm room! ~ Sandra Lee

Tired of those bulky laptops that are tiresome to carry around all day? Aliso Viejo-based Buy.com is offering an Asus EEE PC 900-W073 Netbook with an 8.9 inch screen in white for only $174.99. That’s a savings of $245 (hopefully no one paid full price for this). This nearly bare-bones model has no web cam, no Bluetooth and has a mere 512 MB RAM memory. But at least it does include Wi-Fi (G), 4 GB storage, and built-in memory card reader and right now, Buy.com is offering it brand new for just $5 more than a used model. ~ Sandra Lee

SleeSpot: Deal sites don’t always spot the cheapest price

If you cruise deal sites exclusively, you’ll miss saving a few extra dollars on the Fujifilm FinePix J10, an 8-megapixel digital camera. Deal sites point to one retailer selling the camera for $107.99. But a little research takes me to ElectronicaDirect, where the camera is $95.69 plus shipping. For Santa Ana, the total is $102.68. You can spend that extra $5 on this 2 GB memory card. ~ Sandra Lee

Being a student myself, I’m always on the lookout for discounts I can get with a student ID. Microsoft offers the ‘Ultimate Steal,” which is the full Microsoft Office Suite (that’s Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc) for $59.95. That’s 91% off the retail price, not to mention nearly half the price of the basic regular student version! Of course, you must show proof of being an active college student and have an .edu e-mail address, which unfortunately leaves me out. I’m still in high school! ~ Sandra Lee
